The cottages are set in a traditional village of Gilcrux which is an ideal location for touring the highlights of Northern England, Western and Northern Lakes. Dogs are very welcome in all our cottages.
Gilcrux has two wonderful pubs, a duck pond, Norman Church, Trout Fishing…. We have 5 natural springs, also has a vibrant Village Hall (ideal for weddings and events) and a children’s play park and village green. A private hire swimming pool is just 1 mile away. Once you visit this lovely village you will be hooked, the villagers are so friendly you will soon be part of the community if you choose to take your holidays here at Hollybank Holiday Cottages. This cosy, charming cottage sleeps 2 people but with a sofa bed for extra guests. A log burner warms you in winter or in Summer months enjoy relaxing in the delightful garden. Situated in a rural village with 2 pubs between the Lake District & Coast.
With easy access to the Western Lakes & Fells as well as the more popular Lake District towns of Keswick, Windermere and Ambleside as well as the beautiful Solway Coast, Gilcrux is an ideal base to explore Cumbria whatever the weather.
Rose Cottage is a cosy little cottage in the rural village of Gilcrux with one double bedroom, a sofa bed in the lounge for extra guests and a woodburning stove. The cottage has a dining room, bathroom with bath and separate shower and a lovely terraced garden. Situated in easy reach of the beautiful lakes and fells of the Western Lake District and the stunning Solway coast (AONB). Guests can enjoy a pint of real ale with a meal in either of the 2 lovely pubs within metres of the front door or head to the bustling Lake District towns of Cockermouth, (famous for its annual food festival & Georgian Fair) or Keswick, or the coastal towns of Maryport, Silloth or Whitehaven.
You will have full use of the cottage and garden. A larger garden is also at the rear of the property with a trampoline (in the warmer months) and slide which can be used by any children. On-street parking is available but off-street parking can be provided on request. One basket of logs will be provided to guests with more available for subsequent nights at a small cost. The property has one television and wireless internet access. Bedding and towels are provided. Electric is included. We have a travel cot if required. We have a garage and will allow guests to store their bikes.
We are a family of four and live next door to the cottage. We will greet you and make recommendations for your stay if you would like us to. Any children are welcome to use the larger garden at the top (including trampoline and slide) and our own children will be happy to share their toys.
The garden is terraced and is adjacent to our own garden but we have a larger garden at the top which guests are welcome to make use of. We also have a travel cot if required.
The stairs in the property would not be suitable for people with mobility difficulties.

Our holiday cottages are located in the south wing of Tallentire Hall. Gamekeeper’s Cottage sleeps 5 in 3 bedrooms, while Gardener’s Cottage sleeps 2. The cottages share a large patio with seating areas and firepit barbeques, and a serene and tranquil garden with mature trees, lawns and a Victorian fountain.Contact us for availability to stay in this beautiful and historic Elizabethan manor house and become a part of its’ interesting story.
Sitting in 11 acres of private grounds Tallentire Hall is an impressive manor house in the village of Tallentire. There has been a home on this site since 1086 when the Manor of Tallentire was deeded to Odard son of Lyulph in the aftermath of the Norman Conquest.
The south wing was built in 1590 adjacent to a tower believed to be from 1290. The remainder of the Hall was built in 1863. Gamekeepers Cottage and Gardener’s Cottage are both in the South Wing.
The village pub is a short walk away and a 5 minute drive takes you to a wealth of pubs and restaurants in Cockermouth and surrounding villages. The Solway coast is less than 15 minutes away by car.
Tallentire Hall is a delightful property situated on the edge of the Northern Lakes. If you enjoy a sense of remoteness and tranquillity, Tallentire Hall is the place to visit. Our guests can enjoy the sunken garden area, that is situated beside the Gamekeeper’s Cottage and Gardener’s Cottage.
